Renewables to attract $3.4T in investments by 2030
An estimated $3.40 trillion will be invested globally in renewable energy by 2030, according to a new report from California-based Frost & Sullivan.
That total includes $2.72 trillion that will be invested in wind and solar, the company said its new analysis, “Growth Opportunities from the Decarbonization in the Global Power Market, 2019-2030.”
All signs are that the transition to clean-energy sources will continue through the 2020s while coal takes a downturn in most developed markets, it said.
Falling costs and renewable-friendly energy policies adopted by some countries are reasons why wind and solar are expected to grow in a big way in the 2020s, it said.
By 2030, 54.1% of installed capacity will be renewable including hydropower and 37.9% will be a combination of solar and wind, it said.
“Decentralization, decarbonization and digitalization are the three key pillars of the global energy transition,” said Vasanth Krishnan, senior research analyst, Industrial Practice, Frost & Sullivan, in a statement.
The emergence of new business models will also help reshape the power sector, it said.
The annual global investment in power will increase from $53.14 billion in 2019 to $92.54 billion in 2030, he said.
