U.S. Crude-Oil Inventories Rise More Than Forecast
U.S. inventories of crude oil rose more than expected but gasoline stockpiles increased only slightly as the deadly coronavirus continues to curb demand, according to data released Wednesday by the Energy Information Administration.
Crude-oil stockpiles climbed by 15 million barrels to 518.6 million barrels, putting them about 9% above the five-year average, the EIA said. Analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had predicted crude stockpiles would rise by 13.8 million barrels from the prior week.
U.S. crude-oil production fell by a modest 100,000 barrels a day last week to 12.2 million barrels a day, the EIA said.
